Artist Information

Lee Byung-yoon better known by his stage name BewhY, is a South Korean rapper and member of the $exy $treet & Yello Music crew. In 2016, Bewhy won first place on Show Me the Money 5, the hip-hop survival program and created a huge buzz on every stage. He won the championship with his overwhelming skills and popularity. The reason why BewhY's popularity is especially an issue among Christians is because while most hip-hop musicians write lyrics that criticize society or boast about money and cars, he writes lyrics with a confession of faith as a Christian. He openly reveals to the general public that he is a Christian, and writes his confession of faith in each song he releases. His popularity is unusual in that even the non-Christian public is enthusiastic about him. In addition, "religion is one of the most important things in life. I wanted to put my beliefs and my story into music. There may be resistance because it is content within the framework of religion, but there is something I want to express. That's why I tried to find an intersection,” he said, adding, “There are some people who feel uncomfortable about religious aspects, but I will continue on the path I have chosen and reach out to non-religious people as well.” BewhY's nickname is 'Jesusweger', based on 'Jesus', the English spelling for Jesus, and 'Sweg', a word that refers to one's own style and intoxication in hip hop. BewhY, who is loved by the general public and Christians to the extent that one fan praised him as "a hip-hop praiser that God created because he was tired of existing praise," is expected to continue his popularity this year and play the role of a messenger of the gospel.
